Overview
This course offers a comprehensive approach to training design, focusing on planning, structuring, and building effective learning projects. By following TAP's recommended guidelines and tools, learners will be equipped to design learning solutions that align with business goals and keep learners at the centre. The course covers essential learning theories, inclusive design principles, content curation, and the integration of AI in design, ensuring that participants can create engaging and impactful learning experiences.
Target audience

- Agree upon a work-based learning project with their line manager to work on during and after the course.

This course is designed for anyone who is required to design learning solutions (classroom courses, online workshops, etc.) as a part of their role.
Assessment information
By the end of the course, you will be able to undertake the planning, structuring, and building of a basic learning project, using TAP recommended guidelines and tools.
Learners will be able to:
- Plan a learning project with objectives that align to business goals.
- Understand and apply key learning theories to their work.
- Design learning that keeps learners central.
- Curate and prioritise content.
- Consider Generative A.I. tools and best practice.
- Design learning that uses effective methods and structure.
- Produce key design deliverables.
Session details
Part 1: Getting Started (Pre-requisites)
Before the workshop, learners must:
- Read the Learning Log and establish their goals for the course.
- Agree upon a work-based learning project with their line manager to work on during and after the course.
Part 2: Three-Day Workshop
Day 1 - Planning:
- Introduction to learning design
- Learning theories & principles
- Objectives & assessments
- Learning blueprints
- Designing for people / inclusive design
- AI in design
Day 2 - Structuring:
- Curating content
- Course structure
- Designing sessions & learning methods
- Practice activities
- Course plan workshop
Day 3 - Building:
- Introduction to design deliverables
- Introduction to visual design
- Deliverables workshop: manuals, slide decks, digital whiteboard, trainer guides, outlines
- Quality control
Part 3: Applying the learning at work
Learners will have up to two months to further develop their skills, knowledge, and behaviors within the areas learned. They will document their actions using a provided template, giving them the opportunity to reflect, plan, and discuss next steps with their manager/organization.
Exams and Assessments
Learners will:
- Use a combination of real word and provided learning projects with which to plan, design and produce key deliverables.
- Receive feedback from the instructor on within the course, with which to derive personal development actions, mapped to the TAP Design Process.
- Provide documented evidence of how they have applied their learning to their work after the course.
Obtaining a Digital Badge
A digital badge will be awarded upon:
- Completion of the learning within the course.
- Application of the learning in the workplace within two months of the course.
- Evidence of reflection and action planning within the Learning Log.
- Submission of a declaration of implementation of actions signed by the learner and their line manager.
If nine or more days of TAP Training have been completed and digital badges have been awarded, a TAP Excellence badge can also be claimed by writing toqa.customerservice@qa.com.
